The National Executive

The National Executive is comprised of the Presidents of each of the AIPI Chapters, the Honorary Treasurer and the National Secretary.



Andrew Patterson 

National President (appointed October 2021) / New South Wales Chapter President.

Andrew joined the AIPI in early 2018 and was appointed NSW Chapter President in Feb 2019 and National President on 18 October 2021.  Andrew’s professional background includes local government in internal ombudsman and governance roles, internal investigation roles in the NSW public sector, the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption, the NSW Ombudsman, and WA police where he finished his service as a detective sergeant.  For the last few years has been self-employed, working directly to clients and subcontracting to organisations.

Dean Newlan

Honorary Treasurer.

Dean is a foundation member of the AIPI (1995).  He is a past National President and Victorian Chapter President.   Dean is a consultant to McGrathNicol Forensic based in Melbourne.

Wayne Gladman

National Secretary.

Wayne is a foundation member of the AIPI (1995) and one of the driving forces behind the formation of the institute.  He has been National Secretary of the AIPI for all but two of its 22 years.  Wayne is Director of Fraud Risk Solutions.

Jim Corbett

South Australian Chapter President

Jim joined AIPI in 2003 and was voted onto the South Australian Committee later that year.  In 2004 he was appointed Chapter Secretary and between 2007 – 2018 held the position of President.  Jim is a past National President.  At the 2020 AGM Jim was reappointed as Chapter President.  Jim learned his trade as an investigator with Australian National a Commonwealth Business Enterprise before forging a career as an investigator/ loss prevention specialist in the retail sector.  He currently holds the position of Security Manager (SA/QLD/NT) with Drakes Supermarkets.   Jim has achieved tertiary studies in Investigations, Security & Intelligence and Business Management.

Mark Brennan

WA Chapter President

Mark has been an AIPI member since February 2013 and was appointed WA Chapter President in May 2020. Mark is the Managing Director of Brennan and Associates – Insurance and Workplace Investigations and for the past 23 years his business has provided professional investigation services to national insurers, corporate clients, legal firms and the Government of Western Australia.

Daryn Prior

Queensland Chapter President

Daryn joined the AIPI in April 2021 and was appointed Queensland Chapter President in August 2021. With more than 18 years’ investigative experience conducting criminal and multidisciplinary regulatory standards investigations for the Queensland Police Service, state government and private sector, Daryn is the Managing Director and Principal Consultant of BRPM Projects. BRPM Projects provides professional workplace investigation, assessment and consulting services to Queensland state and local governments, corporate and private sector organisations.

Shane MacDonald

Interim Victorian Chapter President

Shane joined the AIPI in July 2013 and was appointed Interim President of the Victoria Chapter in October 2021. Shane brings significant Public Sector experience having worked for Government bodies in the UK, Australian Commonwealth and State Regulators. Shane is a Forensic Accountant, Licenced Private Investigator in Victoria and NSW, and a Certified Fraud Examiner with over 20 years conducting compliance, misconduct, fraud and corruption investigations. Shane’s experience includes 4 years in the United Kingdom and 7 years as a Forensic Consulting Partner with Grant Thornton Australia. Shane is currently a Senior Risk & Compliance Officer as well as been the Internal Investigations Manager, for the Victorian Workcover Authority/WorkSafe Victoria.
