A mentoring program is available for Student members.
Our AIPI mentoring program seeks to provide individuals with guidance and support to achieve their career goals. As a Mentor or Mentee, you will have a chance to meet and connect with other professionals in our industry and feel supported.
Benefits for mentees
As a Mentee, this is a great opportunity to gain valuable insight and knowledge from those who have been in your shoes and have successfully navigated the path to success.
Other benefits include:
- Experienced guidance and support;
- Learn from the real-life experience of others;
- Explore your career development plan;
- Share issues and concerns in a supportive relationship;
- Receive feedback and developmental guidance; and
- Network and learn about effective networking.
Benefits for Mentors
As a Mentor, you would have a passion and time to support others and contribute to their professional development. The benefits include the opportunity to fine tune interpersonal and coaching skills and gain a sense of enjoyment and personal reward from supporting another’s growth. You would be required to share personal experiences that can help the Mentee see, understand and make sense of their own situation in new ways.
If you are interested in becoming Mentor for your AIPI Chapter, please contact your Chapter President or Jodie at admin@aipi.asn.au.
Framework
Time and commitment are key factors to a successful mentoring partnership.
Key steps of our framework involve the Mentor and Mentee:
- Discussing and determining key goals and objectives;
- Mutually developing a timeline of key activities and dates;
- Regularly discussing resources and networking opportunities; and
- Confirming an agreed-upon process for communication and feedback on the achievement of key goals and objectives.
Roles and Responsibilities
The mentoring partnership is to be Mentee-driven and Mentor-guided. The Mentee holds overall accountability for organising meetings or phone calls, preparing the agenda for each meeting, and following up with agreed actions. The Mentor is responsible for making adequate time for their Mentee and being fully present in their conversations. The Mentor is accountable for following up and providing information when they undertake to do so.
