Victorian government refers jobs partner to police amid fraud claims – 27 August 2020
The Andrews government has referred ‘Raw Recruitment’, an Indigenous-owned company providing labour hire and job placement services, to Victoria Police for investigation into alleged fraud. Concerns related to jobs placements allegedly being overstated and, in some cases, given to people living interstate. Other allegations involve back dating documents and doubts over the Indigenous heritage of some people the company put into work.

For whistleblower advocates, the Australian government’s costly pursuit of these whistleblowers, who exposed government wrongdoing, underscores the need for stronger whistleblower laws, including whistleblower reward laws.
ASIC spikes investigation into CBA top brass – 26 August 2020
Commonwealth Bank has revealed that ASIC has concluded its investigation into the bank, over the AUSTRAC matter and will not take any enforcement action in an announcement posted to the Australian Securities Exchange. ASIC was conducting a probe into the bank’s disclosure of thousands of breaches of the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML-CTF) act which led to the bank paying a record $700 million settlement to the financial intelligence regulator AUSTRAC in 2017.
AMP whistleblower suffered ‘sustained’ sexual harassment: senator – 26 August 2020
AMP has again been rocked by NEW allegations of “sustained” sexual harassment by senior managers. The allegations came just days after AMP announced the resignations of Chairman David Murray, board director and former Treasury secretary John Fraser and the demotion of new AMP Capital boss Boe Pahari. Senator O’Neill said experiences such as those faced by the whistleblower were not uncommon in the financial services sector.
