NSW Police have charged five men as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged $4.7 million business email compromise scam. Altered invoices had been sent to legitimate businesses for payment, before the funds were transferred into personal accounts.

Senator Deborah O’Neill has called on ASIC to investigate General Motors’ plans to establish a new company that will import and sell GM vehicles in Australia to investigate whether ‘illegal’ phoenixing is planned i.e. the “rebirthing” of a business, with one company being stripped of its assets and having them transferred into a new entity that is essentially the same business.

Video analytics, or the use of software to scan video images for certain patterns, is something that has been widely implemented overseas, but not in Australia. It can be used to allocate resources more efficiently and identify where certain triggers can be immediately actioned, without needing staff to view hours of recordings.
