Covid-19 the largest attack on whistleblowers in the world – 17 April 2020
Due to the Covid-19, the 45 whistleblower protection groups who make up the Whistleblowing International Network (WIN) have called on all public authorities and institutions to protect whistleblowers. Now even more, whistleblowers need to be protected from exposing inadequate health system capacity, violations of health and safety and labor law, inequitable and ill-prepared global supply chains, unfair competition practices and market abuses and large-scale violations of personal privacy rights.

Digital contract tracing using smartphone technology location data, holds the greatest chance for us to outpace the virus, but surrendering to surveillance requires a balance between safety and privacy. Human right groups, have demanded that any surveillance measures must be strictly time bound.
Former RSL president Don Rowe fined $200 but avoids jail over credit card fraud – 17 April 2020
Former NSW RSL president Don Rowe has avoided jail and been fined $2,000 for fraud offences. Mr Rowe used the RSL’s credit card to pay for expenses which included more than $9,000 in family phone bills and a $343 Sydney hotel room for his daughter.
Press freedom: Australian court says raid at journalist’s home ‘unlawful’ – 16 April 2020
The warrant to search the house of reporter Annika Smethurst in June 2019 was recently overturned by the High Court and ruled invalid. The raid sought to identify sources of a report published by Smethurst in April 2018, alleging that the government was planning to expand its powers to spy on Australian citizens.
