Andrew Thorburn’s former chief of staff allegedly rorted $500k for a holiday – 6 February 2019

The former chief of staff (Rosemary Rogers) of National Australia Bank boss Andrew Thorburn, allegedly rorted more than $500,000 from the NAB, to fund an extravagant overseas family holiday that included first class travel and luxury resorts. The police suspect that Ms Rogers and the Human Group devised a system in which they allegedly issued inflated invoices to the NAB to collect kickbacks.

Cryptocurrency CEO dies holding passwords that protect $275m worth of coins and cash – 5 February 2019

Digital-asset exchange Quadriga CX has a $275 million problem in that it digital wallets (an application that stores the keys to send and receive cryptocurrencies) appears to have been lost with passing of its CEO. Speculations have been raised whether  this is a scam as funds have been said to be moving on the market despite there being  “no access”.

Independent Reserve has become Australia’s first insured cryptocurrency exchange, with coverage underwritten by Lloyd’s of London. Insurance covers the loss or theft of cryptocurrency from Independent Reserve trading accounts and is considered a significant step in giving confidence to this industry.
