An alleged American bank fraudster (going by the name of James Castle) facing extradition from Australia spun an “elaborate ruse” about his connection to an international finance organisation so top-secret it could be verified only by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull or the Queen.
‘Massive’ identity fraud steals over $250,000 – 23 June 2018
Police are warning Sydneysiders to be vigilant after uncovering a sophisticated mail fraud scam that netted more than $250,000 from 57 individuals and a number of corporate groups. The fraud was uncovered by Strike Force Deary earlier this month. The fraud syndicate allegedly stole mail, ported mobile phone numbers and tricked employees into giving out identifying information to open bank accounts and take out credit cards in the names of the alleged victims.

Hackers stole $250,000 from the proceeds of a home sale while it was being settled on Australia’s new online property transfer system, owned by the big banks and state governments. The sophisticated criminals breached the new electronic property transfer system run by Property Exchange Australia (PEXA).
When can an HR professional be held personally liable? – 22 June 2018
As data released by the Fair Work Ombudsman shows, there is an increasing trend to name third parties like HR practitioners in claims for breach of the Fair Work Act. Developments in relation to labour hire licensing laws and proposed whistleblowing laws should also be carefully monitored as they too may render individuals personally liable.
