WA residents have recently lost up to $45,000 through fraudulent machinery advertisements with little chance of the money being returned. Scammers operated across various advertising platforms including reputable online trading websites across Australia.

Banks ‘can do more’ to compensate fraud victims – 30 April 2020
A review has found the ‘agreed’ system of refunding clients when they are victims of bank fraud has some problems. The Lending Standards Board (LSB), the governing body for the code, said a review of a sample of cases revealed that the failure to spot vulnerable victims, despite evidence being available, could affect compensation claims.

This PayPal and Facebook scam might cost you thousands – 28 April 2020
A new PayPal/Facebook scam allows hackers to steal roughly $1.6m per month from regular Facebook users.
Victims are duped into sending funds voluntarily to what they believe is a friend’s bank account after receiving the same amount of funds in their PayPal account. The PayPal transaction is then reversed.
