Two Students Charged With Cheating Apple Out Of $1.2 Million In Wild iPhone Counterfeit Scam – 7 April 2019
Two engineering students in Oregon, allegedly brought thousands of fake iPhones into the US, filed warranty complaints with Apple that they wouldn’t turn on, and then received real smartphones as replacements. The students then sent the genuine phones back to friends and relatives overseas to flip for profit, of which they collected a percentage.
NAB eyes partnerships with Israeli groups to further big data strength – 7 April 2019
NAB is in discussions with the biometrics specialist and Israeli artificial intelligence groups, to further develop the ways it identifies suspect behaviour by cyber criminals. The plan is to identify problems and formulate millions of possible hypotheses to find solutions.
US spied on Huawei, will use info in trial – 5 April 2019
US authorities have gathered information about Huawei Technologies through secret surveillance and physical search. They plan to use this in a case accusing the Chinese telecom equipment-maker of sanctions-busting and bank fraud.

Griffith leads ARC-funded project to reform national integrity – 4 April 2019
Griffith University integrity and anti-corruption experts have played a crucial part in the development of new draft recommendations from Australia’s second National Integrity System Assessment. Major recommendations focus on: why it must have a broad, truly “national” focus; why it must not be limited to just criminal corruption; why it needs strong and clearer public hearing powers; and why there must be a strong framework of mandatory real time reporting of corruption issues.
